What Size Dumpster Do I Need? 10, 15, 20 or 30 Yard | Titan Dump Co.
Most home projects fit a 15 or 20 yard dumpster. Use a 10 yard for a single-room or garage cleanout, a 15 yard for a kitchen remodel, a 20 yard for roofing or a whole-house renovation, and a 30 yard for demolition or a full estate cleanout. If you're between two sizes, take the larger one — a second haul costs more than the upgrade.

Match the size to your project
The fastest way to choose is by job type rather than by guessing cubic yards.
- 10 yard: garage cleanout, small bathroom remodel, deck up to 300 sq ft, heavy material like concrete or dirt
- 15 yard: kitchen remodel, flooring removal, medium estate cleanout, deck up to 400 sq ft
- 20 yard: roofing up to 30 squares, siding removal, whole-house renovation, large cleanout
- 30 yard: full demolition, commercial jobsite, multi-room gut, large-volume light debris
Volume is not your only limit
Each size carries a tonnage allowance. Shingles, concrete, plaster, tile and soil hit that limit long before the container looks full — a 20 yard filled with roofing tear-off can exceed its allowance at half height.
For heavy material, a smaller container is often the right answer. Call us with the material type and we'll tell you which size keeps you under the limit.
Check your driveway before you book
A roll-off truck needs roughly 60 feet of straight clearance to set and retrieve a container, plus about 23 feet of vertical clearance for the hoist. Low branches and utility lines are the usual obstacles.
On a narrow Lakewood or Parma drive, a 10 or 15 yard will fit where a 20 will not. We board every driveway placement with wood runners at no extra cost.
Frequently asked
What size dumpster do I need for a roof?
A 20 yard handles most residential roofs up to 30 squares of asphalt shingle. For a larger or multi-layer tear-off, call us so we can check tonnage before we deliver.
What size dumpster for a garage cleanout?
A 10 yard is right for most single or double garages. Step up to a 15 yard if there's furniture or built-in shelving coming out.
Can I get two smaller dumpsters instead of one large one?
Yes, and it's the better option when driveway access is tight or when you need heavy material separated from general debris.
